Instagram Love

Life happens every second of the day. If you are not careful, you will miss the small details that make your life grand. Many of us scrappers have a nice fancy camera with fancy lenses in order to take the perfect shot to use on a scrapbook page. I am the same way, but lately I am embracing the camera on my handy dandy phone more and more often.

I normally have my phone on me where ever I go so it is easy to grab it and snap a picture of a fleeting moment I do not want to miss. Camera phones are also great for taking photos of yourself. This is how I got the picture for my Cosplay Fun layout. I personally prefer to use Instagram but I know there are lots of other fun phone apps you can use. Four of my layouts for Scrapbooking from the Inside Out this month have pictures I took with my phone. Most of the time they require no editing and I can print them out as is.

Today I challenge you to leave your big bulky camera at home and only use your phone camera to capture the life around you. You just might be amazed at what you will find!

Exploring Trends: Feathers

One trend I noticed during CHA were paper feathers. I figured I'd give it them a try. I have to admit, at first I had no clue how to add feathers to a layout or if I would even like this trend. After playing with it, I am now a big fan of them! They are super easy to make and you already have the supplies on hand to make them! All you need is a piece of paper and a pair of scissors. Here are the steps I used to create my paper feathers.

Here is how I used the feathers on my layout along with the Webster's Pages Park Drive collection.

Here is a close up of the feathers.

What trend are you liking so far?

Camera Shy No More

I used to hate the camera when I was a kid. I would pretty much run and hide when someone came around with one. I thought I looked silly in pictures. It was rare that I saw a picture of me that I liked.

Fast forward to 20 years later. Now that I am older and have kids of my own, I regret that I don't have many pictures of myself to show my girls. I know there will come a day where they will be curious as to what mommy looked like as a kid. Luckily, I have at least a handful of pictures I can share with them, but I could have had lots more.

That brings me to today. Now I take pictures when I can. I am mainly the one taking pictures but I make sure to include myself in some of them as well. I recently did a layout for Scrapbooking from the Inside Out on this exact subject.

I encourage you to do the same. Take pictures of yourself. You may not like them today but I bet you will years from now when you are looking back at your younger self.

Webster's Pages Blog Hop!!!

Welcome to the Webster's Pages Blog Hop! I hope you are enjoying the amazing work by all the design team girls! If you happened to arrive at my blog first, make sure to head on over to the Webster's Pages blog for the first stop of the blog hop here.

Today I would like to share with you the reason why I scrapbook. I scrapbook to tell my story to my children and for myself. I want to remember all the good and yes, even the bad, moments of my life. I want to have something to look at and remember as time passes and my memory begins to fail me. I want to leave a little mark of my on in this world. A little piece of me for my family and future generations to relish. This leads me to a layout I would like to share with you today that documents a simple, but cherished, moment in my life.

Kids just grow up too darned fast! But alas, I digress. Have you had a chance to check out the new Storymarkers? They are pretty awesome and a super cute embellishment to add to your page! Let's take a closer look shall we...

I think the doily and butterfly are playful and yet elegant all mixed into one! This particular Storymarker is from the Park Drive collection. You can purchase one of your very own here.

Wait! There is more! How would you like to win a little something for yourself? Hidden on 7 of the blogs on this blog hop are giveaways! Yes!!! Just Around the Corner

One of my favorite times of the year is fall. I love the cooler weather after the scorching summer and all the goodies that come out during the fall. It also means that Halloween is just right around the corner!

I have already talked with my girls about what they would like to be for Halloween this year. Jaina keeps going back and forth between being a mermaid or Rapunzel from Tangled. Aryanna has her heart set on the yellow ball dress that Belle wears in Beauty and the Beast. Both girls are beyond exciting that mommy will be making their costumes from scratch this year. The girls get to pick out their own color of fabric, with mommy's help of course. I want them to be as much involved as they can in helping create their costumes. Once I start working on their costumes, I'll make sure to share progress pics on my blog.

Speaking of costumes and Halloween, I have a new layout to show you that I created with the Once Upon a Halloween line from Webster's Pages. I am IN LOVE with this Halloween line! The colors are just perfect for Halloween too!

Here is a detail shot of a portion of the layout. I just love that Halloween titled paper and the circle ribbon! I will be using the heck out of that ribbon so don't be surprised if you see it on a lot of my layouts. Hehe.

Escape Via Sewing

Have you hopped on over to Scrapbooking from the Inside Out this week? Well if you haven't, take a moment and do so. The new kit is for sale and it's a nice one! This month's theme is Escape. What does escape mean for you? For me it means to escape work, my kids, to just have some quiet me time.

Lately my quiet me time has been in the evenings once my kids go to bed. The hum of the sewing machine has been a nice way to end my day. I haven't really sewn much since high school and I still have much to learn, but never the less, it has been a great way to enjoy my evenings. Here is a layout I did on this subject with the Escape kit from Scrapbooking from the Inside Out.

Here is a close up shot of the layout.

Do you see the yellow fabric I am sewing in the picture? Well it's one of my DragonCon costume that I happen to have finished yesterday! I am so happy how it turned out! This is my first time making a complete costume from just patterns and fabric. The corset in this costume is my second one ever! The first one I ever made is for another costume that I hope to show you soon. I have not completed it just yet.

Without further ado, here is my version of a Steampunk Snow White! The only thing missing from this costume is the red hair bow and a nice Victorian necklace. Oh and a better hair do! LOL!

Here is the back view of the bustle dress.

I'm back!

I took a short mini break from blogging in order to get caught up at home. It's been a whirl wind of activities. School starts in a couple of weeks and I have been busy gathering school supplies for my oldest. Next on the list is clothes shopping. Gulp! I am curious to see what style Aryanna is going for this year.

I have also been busy scrapping the nights away. I had a blast at summer CHA in Chicago. It was nice to see some old friends again and to meet the super sweet Brandin in person. I felt so honored to have a few layouts up in the Webster's Pages booth. My heart skipped a beat to see them in person hanging up in the booth. Here they are...

I have also been working diligently on my costumes for DragonCon. I can't believe it's almost here! In a few weeks I'll be heading to Atlanta to hang out with all the other geeks and spaz out on all the fun things to see and do at DragonCon!

Have a great rest of your weekend! Time for me to get back to sewing!
