All you need to do is go to the GCD Facebook page and leave a comment on today's post. Good luck! Ok, now I am off to go play with some paper and glue!

Scrappy Weekend

Yesturday the sun finally came out after a long weekend of rain. Don't get me wrong, I love the rain but when you have 2 little kids couped up in the house all weekend, it's bound to drive you a little bonkers. We did have fun though. We danced and played and chased each other around the house. I am sure if you walked by my house this weekend you probably heard lots of giggling and squeals of laughter. Eventually the fun needs to come to an end and the girls had to go to bed. So guess what mommy did once the house was all quiet....scrapped! Woohoo! Here are some of my new creations I did thanks to some helpful prompts from the Nook Virtual Crop this weekend.

Feels like Spring

Hi everyone! Today I am going to share with you my theme project for GCD Studios. Our assignment this month was to draw inspiration from this photo and to incorporate feathers and silk into our project. When I look at these dresses, the first thought that comes to mind is spring. I drew my inspiration from the yellow, green, and pink dress. My feather inspiration was drawn from the green dress. See how her slip fans out? I thought that would look nice as a background piece on my layout. And here is what I created...

Supplies: Paper, Brads: GCD Studios, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Letters: American Crafts,
Punch: Martha Stewart, Mist: Maya Road, Pearls: BasicGrey, Font: Typenoksidi, Other: feather.

Here are a few close-up shots.
All papers and the brads are from the Homespun Chic line. The feather in the background is actually a large plume that you can purchase in the floral section of Hobby Lobby or Michaels. I cut off the top portion and adhered it to the background. The bird looked a little flat after I cut it out of the paper, so I added some dimension to it by cutting out more pieces and pop dotted them up.

I hope that you will be inspired by the inspiration piece like I was. There are so many ideas you can gather from it! If you become inspired, send me a link to your project in your comments. I'd love to see what you create!

April Showers - Creating Your Own Umbrella

Hello everyone! April is here and that makes me think of rain, rain, and more rain! I thought it would be a cute idea to show you how you can create a quick and easy little umbrella for your projects. I had some leftover feather pieces from a previous layout and decided to challenge myself to find a new use for it.

First you will need to cut out an umbrella shape from a scrap piece of paper. Apply some glue and then put down your first layer of feathers. Add another layer of glue and add more feathers on top. Repeat the process until you no longer see the umbrella template.

After the glue dries, your umbrella should look similar to the one in step 3. We don't want all the excess feathers peeking out so go ahead and cut around your umbrella template to reveal your umbrella. Now it's time for the fun part, embellishing your umbrella! In step 5, you can see I added a ribbon and button. You can add whatever embellishment your woul like. A flower would be a cute touch as well.

The umbrella looked liked it needed a little something extra on the bottom so I used one of my border punches and punched out a scalloped piece from my scrap paper. Then I added some lime and blue mist for added color. After the mist dried, I attached the scalloped piece to the bottom of my umbrella and added a bit of doodling. That's it! You now have a cute fuzzy one of a kind embellishment for your projects. Here is the finished umbrella that I used on a layout...

Supplies: Paper, Button: GCD Studios, Cardstock: Bazzill Basics Paper, Pearls: BasicGrey, Letters: American Crafts, Tape: Making Memories, Punch: Martha Stewart, EK Success, Font: Typenoksidi, Floss: DMC.

That's all I have for today. Have fun creating!

Spring Is Here!

Ah yes. The birds are nesting. The flowers are blooming. Spring is definately here as evident by all the sidewalk chalk art covering my driveway. Today the girls and I enjoyed a fun Easter egg hunt, egg decorating, and, of course, some chalk drawing. :)

A Week Full of Surprises

I have to admit, this has been an awesome week for me...

Last night I was going through all the blogs I read and found this post. It made my day...BIG TIME! I think I was doing the happy dance for the next hour after reading it. Hehe.

In early March, I submitted to the Memory Makers' "The Big Book of Scrapbooking Ideas" which will be released in May 2011. I got an email this week stating that one or more of my layouts were chosen! So exciting! I am not sure which of the three layouts I submitted were chosen. I should know by next week though. Over 500 layouts will be featured in this book and many of my Scrapstreet girls received an email as well. I am so happy for everyone!

The April issue of Scrapstreet.com Magazine is live! Loving all the inspiration this month! It just gets better and better every month! Go see for yourself here.

Ok. I am off to go play with my new GCD goodies that arrived at my doorstep today. Woot!
